About Me

Susan: I've been staging homes, gardening, cooking and entertaining for as long as I can remember. My grandmother, who lived in the "House up on the Corner" as you go around "Broaddus Avenue" in a little town called Bowling Green, Virginia, hooked me early. She taught me the advantages and the joys of an orderly but warm and inviting home. I also learned the satisfaction of preparing a wonderful meal for family and friends, how to entertain ladies for a Bridge Club or gentleman for a Game Dinner and the best recipes for Cocktail parties.Together we rearranged furniture, set pretty tables, grew and made flower arrangements and never passed up an interesting throw pillow on sale. Sharing some of these ideas and lost skills on facebook, lead a couple of years ago to a friend asking me to stage her home which had been on the market for over 3 months. I did some hasty rearranging, spent a couple of hundred dollars and the house sold the following week. Soon another friend asked me to stage for her husband's birthday party and the rest is history.

I am blessed to live accross from the original Broadhurst Dairy Barn which gave its name to both our little community and my home below, called "Red Barn View"

My home built in 1976 is part of the original historic Bowling Green estate known as Broadhurst. The manor house which has been preserved by the Jim Day family lies a block directly in front of me as does the original dairy barn owned by my neighbors, Earl and Emily Chilton, both are contributing structures to the Town of Bowling Green's Historic District.

Most people think of the "art of staging" as a tool to help sell a home more quickly when it goes on the market. Staging however can be so much more. These tips and ideas can be used to make any home more attractive and livable. When staging to sell, you have the option to store things in an attic or basement that clutter the space or don't add to the overall appearance. Real everyday homes must function for multiple family members. Tucking things away in a box often isn't practical so the old adage, a place for everything and everything in its place never goes out of style. You will also hear me say, many times, if you haven't used it in two to three years, yard sale it. When your house is organized, staging it for comfort and beauty is a piece of cake. I never met a house I didn't like (as my friend, Realtor Mark Bissoon can tell you) or one that did not have unique features which really define how both the inside and outside space should work. I also never met anyone who didn't want a home that was both attractive and functional. I hope you will enjoy the projects, recipes and tips on this site.
